Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides)  is a perennial grass native to India.

Vetiver grass widely used for soil conservation, to prevent further soil erosion. even though native to India, not widely used nor many people aware the fact that it can grow in almost all climatic condition. (River bank area, Along the road side parapet wall etc.,),  

Flowering was noticed after 1 and half year old plant at NBNP Garden.

 Satin Wood  (Chloroxylon swietenia) Family:  Rutaceae.

A medium sized densely foliaceous deciduous tree. Wood is generally used for cutting Mutton.

Cassine glauca Family: Celastraceae. Flowering from March to May.

 An evergreen tree, very common in foothills to 1200 m. India and Sri Lanka.

Torch Ginger

Torch Ginger (Etlingera elatior),
Family : Zingiberaceae.



 Native to Indonesia. The plant is now grown in many tropical locations both for the extravagant ‘flowers’ and for food.



Its a torch ginger called Etlinger elatior a good herbal medicine for liver protection has been reported.

 Soap nut (Sapindus emarginatus) leaves.
Sapindus emarginatus is an economically important tropical tree species sparsely distributed in different geographical provinces like Gangetic Plains, Western Ghats, and Deccan Plateau in India.

The drupes (soapnuts) contain saponins which are a natural surfactant. They have been used for washing for thousands of years by native peoples in Asia as well as Americnas. Soapnuts are being considered and used for commercial use in cosmetics and detergents as well as many other products.
