Past two decades (1992-2012)  I had been involved in the ecological restoration of a degraded land at the NBNP Anaikatti. The arboretum consists of nearly 400 species of 25000 plants predominantly of Western Ghats region.

Seagrape (Coccoloba uvifera)  Family, Polygonaceae. Predominantly found in  coastal  regions. Most often used in landscaping.

The reddish fruits of the sea grape may be eaten raw, cooked into jellies and jams, or fermented into sea grape wine.

நீர் அடம்பை

 Red flowers are produced on pendulous racemes about 20 cm. long.

 Like other mangrove trees, they help stabilise the ground and provide shelter and food for small creatures.
Widely occurs in the Pichavaram mangrove forest and  also a Sthalaviruksham TREE of Natarajar Temple, Chidambaram.
